The ANM (alt.nudism.moderated) FAQ
==================================
Version: 1-Jan-08

1. What is alt.nudism.moderated (ANM)?

1.1 - alt.nudism.moderated is a Usnet newsgroup for the discussion
         of naturism (social nudism).

Note: ANM is not Google Groups. Google provides a web-based
interface that can access both its own internal Google Groups
as well as Usenet Groups. Alt.Nudism.Moderated is a Usenet
group that is external to Google, has nothing to do with Google,
         and which is independently moderated.

1.2 - Naturism / nudism is further defined for our purposes
         at the web sites of:

1.2.1 - American Association for Nude Recreation
               http://www.aanr.com

       1.2.2 - The Naturist Society
               http://www.naturistsociety.com/

1.2.3 - The Federation of Canadian Naturists
               http://www.fcn.ca

1.2.4 - Additional national association web sites dedicated to
family social nudism / naturism as espoused by the
               above sites.

   1.3 - alt.nudism.moderated was founded as a moderated newsgroup
         as a way of maintaining on-topic, spam-free, and flame-free
         discussions on naturism / nudism.

2. How do I read and post to ANM?

2.1 - The same way you access all Usenet newsgroups, via a
newsreader. You should be able to subscribe to it like any
other newsgroup. If you try to subscribe, and you find your
Internet Service Provider does not carry it, email your
ISP's support department or news groups administrator and
ask them to carry it. Be sure to note that it is moderated.

2.2 - Until such time as they do carry it, you can read ANM
through Google's web interface to Usenet groups.

         http://groups.google.com/groups?group=alt.nudism.moderated

2.3 - Google does not own Usenet. Usenet is not Google Groups.
Google (Google Groups) offers a web interface to Usenet
newsgroups as do several other similar services. However,
Google also allows its subscribers to create their own
private groups using the same web interface. This has led
to confusion as to what is what.

3. What is the ANM moderation policy?

   3.1 - All posts must be on-topic.

3.1.1 - On-topic is defined as nudism/naturism which is defined by
this moderated newsgroup as social nudity with neither
sexual contact nor emphasis on sexual matters.

3.1.2 - Spam is specifically prohibited. Most commercial posts
           are prohibited.

3.1.3 - Minimal-frequency announcements relevant to nudism are
           specifically permitted.

3.1.4 - Flame wars are not allowed.

3.1.5 - Personal attacks are not allowed.

3.1.6 - Please discuss the subject, not the person.

3.1.7 - This is a text-only group. Binaries (includes pictures)
are not allowed, even if on-topic. There are binary
newsgroups set aside for this purpose.

3.1.8 - Certain long-standing debates or topics may be relegated
to a specific thread or to specially-created / evolving
           FAQs.

3.2 - Strongly suggested... (posts violating these guidelines
may or may not be approved)

3.2.1 - Judicious editing is encouraged.

   3.2.2 - Quoting a long post to a one-line comment is usually
           inappropriate.

3.2.3 - Post in plain text only. Make sure your news client
program does not send HTML. That makes it look like spam
and a potential rejection without further consideration.

4 - Moderator guidelines

4.1 - If a post is clearly within guidelines, approve it.

   4.2 - If a post is clearly off-topic:

4.2.1 - If it's spam, obvious trolling/abuse, or from an
           oft-warned offender, then delete it.

4.2.2 - Otherwise, return the post to the original poster with
a copy of these guidelines or brief explanation as to
           why the message was rejected.

4.2.3 - If unsure about a post, leave it in the moderation cue
           for other moderators to review.

4.2.4 - If a post appears off-topic, but you believe there is
special reason to allow it, approve the post but include
a clearly-marked explanation at the top of the post
explaining why you are permitting the post. [*In this
case only* should moderators insert text into a post.
Moderators should generally reply to a post with a post
           of their own.]

5. - Rejected posts

5.1 - The poster should check the post to see if it fits in the
above guidelines. If it does not and you still wish to post
to ANM, you must edit the post to fit within the guidelines
         befpre reposting.

5.2 - If you believe the post has been rejected in error, contact
         the responsible moderator.

6. - How are posts moderated?

6.1 - The person posts messages in the usual way.

6.1.1 - Posts are directed from the person's local news server
           to a holding e-mail account.

6.1.2 - Moderators access the e-mail account with specially
designed moderation software that retains the news post's
           characteristics.

6.1.3 - The moderator reads the post to assure that the guidelines
           are followed.

6.1.3.1 - On topic posts are posted by the moderator

6.1.3.2 - Off topic posts are handled per above.

6.1.4 - The approved posts are returned to the moderator's local
news server with appropriate approval codes as assigned by
the moderation software. Off topic posts are returned to
           the poster.
