Mission Statement 2008, Our Twelfth Year! The Cape Cod Beach Clean-Up Coalition was formed in 1996 with the coming-together of like minded people and their representative organizations, to help promote a cleaner Cape Cod National Seashore. It also formed to demonstrate that naturists (nudists) that have traditionally used the National Seashore beaches for clothes-optional recreation, are good neighbors and responsible users. After a regulation closed the NPS beaches at Cape Cod to nude and semi-nude usage in the 70s, naturist/nudist efforts have been ongoing to correct many misperceptions that were generated at that time regarding those naturists/nudists that used the beach. Sadly, much of the information that led to the closure was grossly overstated or completely incorrect. We believe that our efforts these last 10 years stands as testimony that naturists are good neighbors and responsible beach users, with hopes that in the future a regulation we deem unfair will be removed from the books. Additional information on the anti-nudity regulation and how it came about can be found on our Various Links Page. Click and view the article Its Time to Retire This Tired Old Cape Cod Canard and Pilgrim Naturistss link on Cape Cod & Clothes-Optional Recreation. Nearby Provincetown has made at least two attempts at establishing their own nude beaches in support of that traditional but various technicalities, and assertions by the NPS that THEY control ALL beaches have stymied that effort. If the town government is willing to support this traditional usage, why not the NPS? Many beaches exist around the USA that support a clothes-optional area that works in close cooperation with the beach management staff. This includes NPS beaches in other states. We believe this is also possible at Cape Cod, and hope to enter into a dialogue at some point to bring about change.
